Is Abortion Completely Banned?
No, abortion laws vary based on what state you live in. While the overturning of Roe v. Wade did not make abortion illegal throughout the US, it did give the power over to the states to restrict abortion. Each state enacts its own abortion legislation.
Abortion Access in Ohio
Since the overturning of Roe in June 2022, Ohio abortion laws have changed. The Heartbeat Bill (House Bill 258) is now in effect, prohibiting an abortion if the unborn has a detectable heartbeat. There are exceptions made for the life or physical health of the woman.
Ectopic Pregnancy Treatment
Many women get confused when it comes to ectopic pregnancy and abortion. Ectopic pregnancy is a non-viable pregnancy that must be treated, unlike abortion which is terminating a pregnancy. Women who have an ectopic pregnancy many times want to carry to term. It’s not a decision they get to make.
The FDA does not recommend taking the abortion pill after 70 days of pregnancy or with an ectopic pregnancy.
So with this in mind, the overturning of Roe does not affect the normal ectopic pregnancy treatment. All women can receive the same medical attention and treatment available for ectopic pregnancy if needed.
